Karl Böhm leads the Vienna Philharmonic in an all-Strauss program featuring
Tod und Verklärung, Burleske for Piano and
Orchestra (with Nikita Magaloff, piano), and the monumental Ein Heldenleben
(with Willi Boskovsky, violin solo).
Böhm was a personal friend of Richard Strauss and conducted the premiere of
two of his operas, Die Schweigsame Frau and Daphne. This release is part of
VAI’s ongoing series of Vienna Philharmonic concert DVDs featuring preeminent
conductors such as Böhm, Sir Georg Solti, George Szell, and others.
