Earl Wild and the piano music of Rachmaninoff have always been a match made in heaven. Mr. Wild was a good friend of Rachmaninoff and attended every public concert East of the Mississippi, from the time he was an early teen (in the late 1920s) until the composer's death in 1943. The 1991 and 1992 recordings of the two sets of piano Variations, Sonata No. 2, and Preludes are remastered. An added bonus to this 2-CD set are three of Rachmaninoff's most popular piano transcriptions.
Rachmaninoff: Variations on a Theme of Chopin Op. 22 ('91)
Rachmaninoff: Variations on a Theme of Corelli Op. 42 ('91)
Rimsky-Korsakov / Rachmaninoff: The Flight of the Bumble-Bee ('81)
Mendelssohn / Rachmaninoff: Scherzo from "A Midsummer Night's Dream" ('81)
Kreisler / Rachmaninoff: Liebesleid ('81)
Rachmaninoff: Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 36 ('93)
Rachmaninoff: Ten Preludes, Op. 23 ('93)
Rachmaninoff: Nine Preludes, Op. 32 ('93)
